The Basset Hound was bred as a rabbit hunting dog, and they have 20,000,000 scent receptors, four times as much as humans have. The white tip of its tail is meant to help its owners be able to keep track of it in bushes and underbrush.
Like the Miniature Dacshund, its front legs are so far from its hind legs that it can develop back problems. Another downfall of its body-type is that Basset Hounds can't swim, as they will sink like a stone in water. Due to the density of its bones, a tall Basset Hound can weigh about as much as a Labrador Retriever. At the Nintendogs + Cats Club Kennel, the Basset Hound comes in Tricolor and Lemon & White. If the player chooses "Surprise me!" they may find a pure white Basset Hound. This dog makes a great family pet.
