The Maltese is a breed of dog recognized by the Nintendogs + Cats Club Kennel. It comes from the Central Mediterranean area, around Malta and is the world's oldest small dog.
3DS (NTSC): "Receiving its name from the island of Malta, this breed boasts a silky, pure-white coat."
3DS (PAL): "This breed from the Mediterranean boasts a soft coat of pure white."
The Maltese is usually a show dog, given that it has long, silky fur. They are also the richest dog in the world; for centuries they have been the dog of choice for wealth and glamourity. They are one of the most popular companion dogs. They are also popular pets because of their fondness of pamperment and their characteristical round black eyes and button-like nose. At the Nintendogs + Cats Club Kennel, the maltese's recognized kind comes in White. If the player chooses "Surprise Me!" they may find a maltese/terrier mix that can have brown, gray, or black patches on their faces and bodies.
Another positive point with the maltese, is their hypoallergenic and furless body. Like the Toy Poodle it has hair, and is a good choice for people with allergies. The hall-mark of the maltese is its small size, but that small package provides a lot of love and affection. The breed does well in many environments (interiors). If you want a dog that you want to have go to the mountains or on long walks, while maltese can be very athletic, think that for every step you take, they're probably taking five to ten steps. Take breaks like shopping or stopping at a cafe after one minute of walking. Although they're smart, beware of over-pampering as these dogs tend to become too dependent on their owners. Grooming is high maintence, as they need daily brushing and bathing. Overall, they are very adaptable to mostly any environment, require daily grooming, early training and no over-pamperment, and will make a good companion.
